I find myself trying to soak up every ray of heat the sun has to offer these days.
This is the first time I can ever remember dreading the arrival of fall. I have always greeted the end of summer with a warm farewell hug, but not this year.
Time feels like it has passed at warp speed this summer.
And I feel all sorts of resistance right now. Not ready for the heat to fade. Not ready for the leaves to fall. Not ready for my babies to age a bit further. Not ready for all the changes a new season will bring.
Last night I was preparing to head to the gym for treadmill sprints, but when I stepped outside to get the mail, it was clear I needed to change my plans. The weather was too perfect to be indoors.
We headed to the lake. I ran for a few miles while the boys walked, and then we found a picnic spot for dinner beside the docks.
My change in plans for the evening was just another attempt to hold on to these last bits of summer. And it turned out to be a pretty beautiful way to spend a Tuesday night.
Oh, and Parker my dude, if you are ever reading this – I sincerely hope that you no longer think dogs are “mean mugging” you, and are no longer attempting to kick them off the trail. Dogs are not out to get you.
